1. Donate gently used furniture
If the piece is clean, structurally sound, and free of rips, stains, or pet damage, donation is almost always the best option. Several Rochester organizations accept furniture and many offer free home pickup for larger items.

- Salvation Army — most upholstered and wood furniture in good condition.

3. What's not accepted at donation centers
Most nonprofits can't take items that are broken, heavily stained, moldy, or infested. Items that generally require professional disposal include:
